This project was an absolute delight. My clients bought this delightful old fisherman's cottage in a conservation area. The cottage had been extended multiple times over the decades and was in a bad state of repair. In fact the whole rear half of the cottage had to be re-built completely.

My clients were keen to retain the wonderful intimate and quirky feel of the cottage, while opening up the back of the house to receive more light and modify the front elevation to remove the unsympathetic extension. My clients are keen gardeners and had inherited the fabulous cottage garden to the back of the property. The project required House Gecko to work with a planner, conservation officer, SAP assessor, structural engineer and building control officer to ensure the new design satisfied all statutory requirements.

My architectural and interior design services enabled the layout of the house to function more effectively and provide the clients with a light, bright and airy house, with a fantastic feature lantern over the dining room, which is in the centre of the plan. The dining room then became the central heart of the house, enabling light to spread out from there.

The front elevation was modified, we re-instated the quirky semi-circular window in a more appropriate location and reduced the porch size to add balance and proportion.

The rear of the house, namely the conservatory and bedroom are heavily glazed, affording uninterrupted views over the cottage garden, my clients enjoy sitting admiring all their hard work from their beautiful new home.
